Although Intel would like to see the death of the socket 7 based motherboard many motherboard manufacturers are releasing products based on the improved Super Socket 7 standard. These motherboards have a standard bus speed of 100MHz (rather than the previous 66MHz). Reviews of such motherboards are to be found at Super7

The Brotherhood of the CPU hasn't been updated for a while (31/5/99), but Sharkys is a more than adequate replacement as a recommended hardware site.

Retailers

There are of course many, many retailers of computer hardware and software; the following some of the well estabilished retailers with a presence on the internet.

If you are looking for a specific product urgently then it is worth trying a large retailer like Dabs. Dabs have a very wide range of products in most categories of hardware and consumables. The choice of business and professional software is also good, and prices, if not the cheapest tend, to be competitive. A wider range of software is offered by the Software Warehouse, Software Warehouse also have a number of high street outlets.

Small retailers, operating mainly or exclusively through direct chanels can offer the best value if you are willing to be flexible. One such retailer CCL carry a very narrow range of products but are hard to beat on price. Their web pages are updated regularly.

If you are looking for a product that has been discontinued then keep an eye on ComputerBargains and MorganComputers. On the software side Microworld carry a wide range some current, some discontinued, some specialist; e.g. if you want an older version of a programming tool or Linux distributions, books, utilities Microworld may be the place to look.
